January 7, 2019
It’s not January 1st which means I’m “late to the game” but I’m not. This was on purpose. I don’t know about you but the last 2 years I have thought long and hard about my goals for the year ahead. I’ve gotten excited about them and by the time the 1st comes around I’m typically very motivated and can’t wait to share them with the people of Instagram. I come up with a blog post, a cute picture for the Instagram post and then I include each goal I have set for the year and look forward to seeing if anyone has the same ones I do and what people have to say about my goals!! Then I scroll. I scroll through everyone else’s posts and read their “Goal Setting” blogs and I get discouraged. I feel like my goals aren’t good enough, they aren’t creative, they’re not big and my goals should be like hers.
This year, I’m doing things differently for myself. I purchased power sheets back in October and I worked on them pretty consistently to prepare for the new year. I had my goals picked out and picked a part before the 1st of the year and I was feeling so good about them!! I have 8 goals for the year- the big picture ones that is, and then of course all the little ones that will help me achieve those goals. I was planning to write a blog and post it on the 1st just like every. single. other. creative. Then I remembered the last two years and decided, nope, I’m not doing it that way this year. This year on the first I came home from Harrisonburg, walked to pick up my car from getting inspected and while I walked I listened to Instagram Stories, but if goals were mentioned I skipped them. When I got back with my car, I scrolled my feed, but once again if they talked about goals I saved them and skipped them. I want to know other people’s goals because I love to support my fellow creatives and I want to watch them grow but just not on the 1st of the year. On the first of the year, I wanted to reflect on MY year and think about what I wanted to see happen in my life. I already had my goals written down like I mentioned but I wanted to make sure those were really the goals I wanted to start to focus on.
I gave myself permission to start when I wanted to start. I’ve started focusing on those goals, in fact I worked out 3 out of 5 days last week just like I wanted to but y’all didn’t know that. I also made another attempt at finding a second job, but I didn’t talk about it on my stories. Just because I haven’t mentioned it doesn’t mean I didn’t start 2019 on the 1st, it just means that I wanted to focus on what I need for my life to grow before you all read it and I read yours and became less confident. So, my goals for the year are big but I believe they are attainable and I hope this is a good time for you to read about them.
Here are just a few of my goals:
These are just half of my goals for this year because that is all I want to share with you all and that’s okay. It’s okay to have more personal goals that you only discuss with close friends and family and it’s also okay to put it all out there. I wanted accountability from people who truly care about what I’m doing with my life and want to watch me grow! With that being said, I mentioned I want to be more intentional and make more friends in my area and within the industry!! If you’re looking for the same thing, or even have some of the same goals as me, I’d love to hear from you!!
