I wanted to share a little insight as I plan my own wedding!! Two of the most frequently asked questions I get are, 1. Are you hiring a wedding planner and 2. Where are you wedding dress shopping? So I thought I would answer those here and a few other questions or thoughts you may have!
I am 100% having a Day-Of coordinator for my wedding even though there are 2 venue coordinators that will be there the day of my wedding. Yes, you read that right, there will be 3 people in charge of my wedding day as well as over a dozen staff that have jobs during the entirety of the day that will also be a part of making the day run smooth! I decided to hire a planner for the day-of because 1. I know how much I do on a bride’s day and I was not going to have any of my friends or family do that job. They deserve to enjoy the day as well and putting them in that position was something I said I would never do. 2. I needed someone who knew how I worked and what goes through my head on a wedding day, so I hired someone who knew exactly that and I can’t wait to have her there!!
Just because a venue has a coordinator (or 2) doesn’t mean that they want to or will be someone who can be your day of planner and there’s hardly any chance they will have the time or energy (if we are being real) to help with all of the other aspects that go into planning outside of just the wedding day! I decided I would do all of that on my own, but the amount of times I have said “I can’t imagine if I had to do this on my own without the knowledge I have” is crazy and I promise I’m not just saying that. I’m in a position where I have worked with a lot of vendors, I know which ones to book quickly, I also know how and where money can be saved and I’m so grateful for that.
Now, onto the dress shopping question. Of course I will be shopping and purchasing my dress at Annalise!! I may be a little biased, but I don’t know how I could even think of looking anywhere else! It would feel like cheating. I am so excited after almost 5 years of working there, that it’ll be my turn in just 2 weeks to find my dream dress!! I may share some behind the scenes of that day but my dress will be kept secret. I will also openly share that I am shopping for my dress on the later side, 8 months out is good but ideally 10 months is better. Especially if you aren’t sure what style or designer you are interested in as designers all have different lead times. I know know the general style I’m interested in so therefore I know that some of the designers who take longer are not ones that I am interested in! Once again, being in the industry has greatly helped my planning process!
A few other things I booked as soon as possible were the photographer, hair and makeup and I am currently in the process of booking a florist! I will share all of these in a later post.:)
Bottom line, if you think you might need help, then you probably do! I have no met a single bride who regretted having a wedding planner, but I have met plenty who wish they had hired one for at least one aspect of their wedding.
